TO PROMOTE PET ADOPTION BY LEVERAGING PARTNERSHIPS

OUR GOAL

Every pet deserves a loving home.

That is why, by 2025, we committed to working with our partners to promote best practices and help to improve adoption rates.

Together, we are making a difference. Between 2024 and 2025, more than 37,000 pets found a loving home across Europe through our adoption partnerships.

Each adoption gives a pet a second chance and helps create a better life for both pets and the people who welcome them into their homes.

OUR COMMITMENT

Helping pets find their forever families.

That is why, by 2025, we committed to working with our partners to promote best practices and help more pets find loving homes.

Together, we are making a difference. Between 2024 and 2025, more than 37,000 pets found a loving home across Europe through our adoption partnerships.

Every adoption gives a pet a second chance to experience the care, companionship and sense of belonging that every pet deserves. It marks the beginning of a new chapter, helping pets and the people who welcome them into their homes build a life together.

Why it's important

We have always supported pet adoption. Finding loving homes for pets is something that we are passionate about and that's why it was part of our original 10 commitments in 2016. In recent years, challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis have led to an increase in pet abandonment in some countries, placing growing pressure on animal shelters. So, our commitment is more important than ever. That's why we continue to work with our local and new adoption partners to enable pet adoption and promote the sharing of best practices.

Together, we aim to create a future where  pets aren't left behind and more can thrive in safe, caring homes.

OUR POINT OF VIEW: PURINA, PARTNERSHIPS, AND COLLABORATIONS

We love pets and believe in the positive difference they make to people’s lives and to society. While most pets are loved and well cared for, economic and social challenges mean that thousands of dogs and cats are abandoned each year and the numbers are rising.

We recognise we are in a unique position to help support adoption. Across Europe, we support pet adoption programmes to help improve pet adoption rates. We provide food to adoption centres and support many adoption awareness events and educational campaigns on the benefits and responsibilities of pet adoption. Pet food donations for our partners are an important part of our support and this became even more critical during the pandemic when funding to shelters was affected. When they were most in need of help, we donated millions of pet meals to our adoption partners and others needing help.

We know that the pet-human bond has many benefits, which is why we're looking for tangible solutions to enable adoption and create richer lives for pets and the people who love them.

OUR PARTNERSHIPS

Bark Date
Germany
Bark Date
Bark Date is a non-profit initiative dedicated to helping shelter dogs find the loving homes they deserve. In a relaxed park setting, potential adopters meet the rescue dogs for the very first time, allowing them to experience each dog’s unique personality in a natural and pressure-free environment.
By focusing on genuine connection and putting the dogs’ needs first, Bark Date helps ensure the right match between dogs and future pet parents, thereby supporting thoughtful, responsible adoption decisions. So far, over 1000 dogs have already found their forever families.
Greece
Dog's Voice & Stray Planet
Purina in Greece is taking action to support cats and dogs living on the streets and drive meaningful change. Through the “Your Hug, Their Home” initiative, partnering with Stray Planet we promote adoption and responsible pet ownership. An outdoor Adoption and Fostering Day engaged over 700 animal lovers and led to 13 adoptions and 17 fosterings, helping more stray animals find loving families and start a new beginning.
City Cats
Moldova
City Cats
City Cats is dedicated to care for stray cats in Moldova and give them the chance of a happy life. Over the past 5 years they have helped 500 cats by sharing their stories on social media and supporting their first month in a new home with donated cat food. This support helps these animals settle in and start their new lives with care and comfort.
Happy Paw TV Programme
Ukraine
Happy Paw TV Programme
In 2025, Purina partnered with Happy Paw to run a TV programme in Ukraine dedicated to one of the country's most pressing challenges, homeless animals. Through real stories and practical advice, each episode introduced viewers to animal shelters, shared guidance on responsible feeding and pet care, and helped people understand how to find their pet. We gave homeless pets a voice, sharing their stories and showing them as they truly are, loving companions waiting for a family. By the end of the project, 53% of the pets featured on the programme had already found a new home.
