Remove Artificial Colourants From Our Products
Our goal
By 2020, we will completely remove artificial colourants from our main meal products. By 2023, we will completely remove artificial colourants in snacks.

Our achievement to date
In 2018, a total of 84 tonnes of artificial colourants were used. This is a 32.8% reduction from the 125.2 tonnes used in 2017.
We have made great progress on our main meal products with artificial colours having been removed from: Purina ProPlan Felix, Gourmet, Purina Dog Chow, Purina Cat Chow, Bakers, Beneful, Friskies Cat & Dog, Felix, and Fido among others.
From 2015 until now, 70 tonnes of artificial colourants have been removed achieving an overall reduction of 45.4% to date. And, we are on track to achieve our 2020 & 2023 targets.

Our Point of View: Artificial Colourants in Pet Food
We know that, when choosing a pet food, most owners want their choice to look appetising. In the production process, pet food can lose colour so artificial colourants are added to maintain a more desirable and consistent appearance. Non artificial colourants are substances that exist in nature. When they are extracted from nature they are ‘natural’ and when they are processed they are considered non-artificial.
However, we recognise that just as people don’t want artificial colourants in the food that they eat, they don’t want them in the foods their pets eat either.

That's why we are motivated to push ahead and remove any remaining added artificial colourants in our pet foods ahead of our target.

FRISKIES: Honouring our commitment to remove artificial colourants
Our teams undertook research to discover new, non-artificial colourants, while reviewing recipes, testing and producing the new Friskies cat and dog food range of products. We are proud of our technical teams, who strove to deliver more natural colours while keeping the colour differentiation which we know is important to pet owners and the taste that pets love.
